flavor of Green
Queens D. Light is a Los Angeles born, Bay Area raised music artist, performer and filmmaker based in Oakland, CA. Her debut project, California Wildflower, has positioned her as the Bay Area's staple experimental rapper. Her unique sound is influenced by a mix of styles like rap, punk, dance, and electronic. QDL's groundbreaking performances are both memorable and mind bending. She has toured with Anderson Paak, and shared stages with Kelis, Princess Nokia and Mykki Blanco. Queens D. Light works with producers such as Suzi Analogue, Ras G of Brain feeder and Gold Robot's Monster Rally --her name rings in the underground from coast to coast.
In QDL's newest EP " Flavor of Green " she navigates patriarchy by exuding femme empowerment. "Flavor of Green" offers a collection of glittery sounds layered with the Queens sultry voice. Her lyrical complexity juxtaposed some bass heavy tracks leave the listener in another sonic realm. In this project she dives into multiple media forms by creating videos inspired by short films. A true auteur , QDL directed all visuals accompanying Flavor of Green. Her voice is unapologetically threaded in every stitch of this project.
Flavor of Green is a homage to Femme empowerment and control. QDL made a point to collaborate with black women to produce , shoot , edit and costume design for her visual presentations. Her lyrics on the title track reveal feelings of marginalization by hetronormative ideas as she chants, " He said he only wants the best of me, what would he do with the rest of me".
Flavor of Green EP will be released June 29th, 2018 on Itunes, Spotify and Soundcloud .
